softproofing is definately for position and content only. If the customer is color critical, I have a habit of purchasing a color proof from the printer being used for the job(really only until I can afford a setup of my own), to avoid buying multiple color proofs, I make sure the customer agrees/approves the layout and content. And if they make changes after that, it goes back to softproofing, colors usually will still be what they saw on their hard color proof....
