Good point with colors. Online proofing is best for design layout and feel.
Hard line is best for color accuracy.
The goal behind softproofing is to reduce the cost associated with hard line prints and to save time, and gas, with either running to a client site or having them come to you to display proofs.
We are still working on an online densitometer, but it will be a couple generations off.
Few online proofing solutions offer it and normally have an assocaited cost of about $15,000 (i.e. Kodaks RealTimeProof)
If you want to try ProjectProofing.com, we do offer a free 15 day trial to get a feel for it.
