Something preventitive you can do is start using dot 3 extenisions. I know that's scarry for most Mac folks but having .qxd at the end of the files would have solved all of this. The little PC association extention in OS 9 would have seen them as Quark files this way and OS 10 will read use the dot 3 if it can't find an parent application for the file.

yeah, most of the newer apps (like CS2, etc.) will add these extensions to the end of the file name for you, just for that type of problem.
