BTW file typer will do batch jobs, I just forget how it was done. I used to use it all the time.
Something preventitive you can do is start using dot 3 extenisions. I know that's scarry for most Mac folks but having .qxd at the end of the files would have solved all of this. The little PC association extention in OS 9 would have seen them as Quark files this way and OS 10 will read use the dot 3 if it can't find an parent application for the file.
