Is your QXP version 3.2?
Bart is your old QuarkXPress version 3.2? As opposed to 3.0 or 3.32 etc.. The alert I got on January 1, upon opening 3.2, if I recall correctly, was "this version of QuarkXPress is no longer valid" or words to that effect. Incredulous, I tried again to open it, and this time got "QuarkXPress has been damaged. Please contact Quark for assistance. [2]". Each time I tried it thereafter I got the "damaged" message, and never again the "not valid" message. This happened even if I temporarily set the date on my Mac back to 2003 and restarted.
Then, with much dread, I eventually was able to reach a Quark Inc. saleslady, intending to ask whether it was company policy that programs self-destruct after some period of time, or on the other hand, would some sort of patch be available which I could download in order to resuscitate 3.2. She said simply, "we don't support those earlier versions like 3.2, sir". From here on it was pure stonewall, as so many have experienced attempting to deal with that company.
I do have a backup copy of the program, stuffed, on one of my backup drives, so if indeed your version is 3.2 and it's working in 2004, I could try unstuffing my backup copy, changing the date on my Mac back to 2003 again, and then seeing if the program will open. Or if your version is some other, it would be of interest to find out that only 3.2 got the Mission Impossible auto-sizzle.
Something I might try with 4.1, and other people might want to try with versions they own, is to change the Mac's date from 2004 to, say, 2030, and see if the program will open.
