Nexus training is very helpful. It usually is too much information for my brain to handle, but that's why you take a notes! I've taken 2 trainings, both the beginner trianings.
The first one was in Pennsylvania for PageFlow, the precursor to Nexus. It was a bit overwhelming even though we had in the shop for about 3 months prior. I still learned a lot and those notes still come in handy once in awhile.
The second training I took in Los Angeles a couple years back. It was superb. The training was a bit new there yet but I still learned a lot of things and got free soda, can't argue there.
I would recommend doing the beginner course. I've survived all these years with just that. I guess it would totally depend on what you are doing with the rip itself. The training is free with the service contract, you just gotta get yourself there.
The other thing that helped out was having a tech come on sight and help set things up and spend a few days going over what specifics our shop needed. The trainings in LA and Penn. cover a broader range than we needed.
Hope my 2 cents helps.
