File Buddy can probably do what you need. It's been a long time since I've used it but I have done exactly what you're trying to do (but on a smaller set of files)

Version 8 is OS X only but you'll find a link to version 7 on the download page.

There's probably some command line way of doing this but unless someone knows how, give File Buddy a try.
