Creator type lost after server failed

My IT manager has asked me to post a help question to see if any of you can come up with a utility which will do this

? could do with a recommended software tool that relates
to files of unknown origin, that simply appear on OS 9 as PC files. We
know that they are Quark or Acrobat files, but the association with the
creator program has been lost.
There is a shareware tool for OS 9 called FileTyper (v5.5), which does
the job OK but which doesn?t seem able to cope with batch jobs, despite
what it says in the readme blurb. And the thought of individually
changing 3000+ files is not really appealing! ?

I think that a server failed and the fail over server kicked in but all the files came back up having lost the creator type and he needs an app to make OS 9 or OSX see the creator and display the correct icon. The server is windows 2003 and has a HTFS file system.

Not really my area but any help would be great

Thanks Neil
