I curious as to why you would copy and paste the images into Illustrator first as opposed to Photoshop?

You may want to check the image properties before copying and pasting from any Microsoft app - Word or Powerpoint or Excel - if the image was scaled down in the app and you copy-paste it, you'll copy the scaled image. go to the image properties and make sure the scaling is 100% all around then copy-paste.

lucky me - I haven't had a problem with clipart yet...
